The Opal Lock installation includes the Opal Lock Service, which operates as a background service to support the application. Once installed, this service runs automatically without requiring any user action. Its role is to provide necessary support and functionality to ensure the smooth operation of the Opal Lock application. Users can rely on this service to work in the background seamlessly, without needing to manage or interact with it directly.
The Opal Lock Service serves the following purposes:
-
Automatic Detection of Drive Events: The service automatically detects drive insert and detach events. When a drive is attached to the system, the background service detects the insert event and updates the user interface (UI) accordingly, displaying the newly attached drive. Similarly, when a drive is detached, the service detects the detach event and updates the UI to reflect the removal of the drive.
-
Automatic Drive Unlocking: Upon the insert event of a drive that is set up with Opal Lock or a USB flash drive containing the password file of the drive, the background service automatically initiates the drive unlocking process. It does so by automatically reading the password saved in either the system drive or the USB flash drive containing the password file. This seamless process ensures that authorized users can access their encrypted drives without manual intervention.
