Why OS crashed when System drive is Locked?

Operating System is suppose to crash when System drive is Locked or when Data is erase from the System drive using Opal Lock Application.

"System will not be able to perform read/write operation on the drive once Locked. Therefore when system drive is locked, computer fails to read data from it and OS crashes as a result. Data is safe in this case. User can use the System drive data/OS on Unlocking and rebooting the system drive."
